Letícia
story
Curitiba - East Sector - Paraná
On 2000 Pastoral da Criança was beginning its
work on the community Jardim Ouro Preto, São
José dos Pinhais, with only two community leaders:
Eliane and Sirlei. At the home visits, they found a
child on a critical state, needing urgent medical treatment.
The mother had practically desisted to take care of
the child, thus she though it was germs, even with medicines,
the girl wasn't getting better, that was 2 years old
and weighted 6 kilograms. So, one of the community leaders
proposed to follow up the mother and seek for help to
solve the child's problem. After sometime, the situation
got severe, the child stopped eating, had a lot of diarrhea
and begin to suffer breathing problems. The community
leader insisted with the mother to look for medical
help and phoned the Health Secretary of the municipality
explaining the case. With the mother and the child,
the community leader went to the secretary's office
that when he saw the child's state phoned immediately
to a child's clinic, recommending the child to Dr. Rodolfo
care. At the clinic the pediatric doctor made several
exams on Letícia and constated that she suffered
from celiac illness. Besides this, she was in a profound
state of dehydration and low temperature.
Leticia stayed 59 days in the hospital and begun a
diet of not ingesting monosodium glutamate at the food.
Dr. Rodolfo took care of Letícia for free and
said that if it was not Pastoral da Criança the
girl would have died in one or two days. Today, Letícia
is 5 years old, she is very clever and happy and continues
to be followed up by Pastoral da Criança. The
community leader Eliane thanks God and the doctor for
the interest, believing that this was another great
victory of life, typical of Pastoral da Criança.
