PERINATAL AT THE FIRST YEAR OF LIFE
What are perinatal affections?
They are diseases of the recently born that have the
origin on the perinatal period (seven days after the
birth), even that the death will come later.
Which is the importance of perinatal affections?
At Brazil, nowadays, it is the first cause of infant
mortality (children below one year old).
Which are affections perinatal?
It can be, for example, the prematurity, the low weight
at birth, the neonatal infections, etc.
How can we evitate these affections?
High ranges of infant mortality for perinatal affections
reflect, in a general way, low social economic levels
and unsatisfactory assisting conditions to the mother
and to the recently born. Seeking access to the health
service and assisting quality, we are fighting to upgrade
our citizenship conditions.
Are we having progress on this fight?
It is know that the health services are guaranteeing
each time more the life of recently born prematurely.
Allying it to health assistance policies, like the incentive
to mother's breastfeeding exclusively, therapies of
oral rehidration and basic vaccines, we are upgrading
our ranges of infant mortality.
Which is Pastoral da Criança role?
Our community leaders have a fundamental role at this
fight, making that each time it is tried to follow up
more children even during the pregnancy, taking orientation,
confort, solidarity, life, gospel...
It is through the home visits, where our community
leader hear, dialogue and orient on the importance of
prenatal, the exams doing, the preparing for breastfeeding,
observance of danger signs, vaccination scheme, indicators,
access to the health service, among so many others things,
that we performance our role of love and health promoters
in the search for a wholesome life.
