da Criança signs a partnership accord with Maranhão
Government
On October 30th, Pastoral da Criança signed
a partnership accord with Maranhão State Government.
Pastoral da Criança National Coordinator, Dr.
Zilda Arns Neumann, met with the governor José
Reinaldo Carneiro Tavares, at ceremony at Palácio
dos Leões (Lyons' Palace), to sign the partnership.
The resource, of R$ 861,882.00, is previewed for a year
at outlay in 12 parcels. The resource will be used to
expand Pastoral da Criança actions at Maranhão
State, specially at health, nutrition and education
basic actions implementation at the poorest communities.
Pastoral da Criança already is present at more
than 1,400 communities, of 144 Maranhão municipalities.
Today, Pastoral da Criança coverage at the State
is of 10.2% of the poor children, below six years old.
At its 20 years of experience, monthly following up
more than 1.6 million poor children below 6 years old
at all Brazil, and more than 1.2 million pregnant women,
Pastoral da Criança understands that the sum
of efforts of al society sectors is the main path to
achieve positive results at the reduction of malnutrition
and infant mortality at Brazil.
