Zilda laments ambassador Sérgio Vieira de Mello
death at Bagdah
Pastoral da Criança laments the death of the
Brazilian Sérgio Vieira de Mello, specially send
by UNO to Iraq, and of all people that died after the
bomb truck attack to UNO headquarters, at Bagdah, on
August 19th 2003 afternoon. We believe there
is not in the world a single motive that justify war
and terrorism, two ill things that generate even more
violence. Therefore, we pray for that the world to understand
that peace is a continuous effort for us to surpass
the differences, prioritizing at our relations the construction
of a dialogue and agreement culture, to begin with the
family relationship.
During the trip to East Timor, on January 2001, I had
the honor to count with the support of Sérgio
Vieira de Mello, as Special Representative of UNO General
Secretary, during the entire trip. From this support,
the Pastoral da Criança methodology was consolidated,
helping to improve the life quality of many Timor families
and children.
The construction of a better and fraternal world depends
only at the peace culture construction, a work that
Pastoral da Criança develops for the last 20
years. Thus, the more than 203 thousand Pastoral da
Criança volunteers in Brazil and, sure, the hundreds
of East Timor Pastoral da Criança, are solidary
with the families of all the victims catastrophe. That
God blesses and conforms all, at the certainty that
together we can promote peace.
