The
Pastoral da Criança´s approach bases
on the idea that the solution of social problems needs
human solidarity, organized and promoted in a network
and having defined goals. Also, it sees the leadership
in poor and miserable communities as the main change
agents. Within Pastoral da Criança, more than
90% of the volunteers are poor women a fact that reinforces
the relevance of women participation in social change.
When changing their own families and communities, they
accomplish a true revolution, rescuing values and practices
of life praising.
Linking
teamwork to faith and social commitment, the Pastoral
da Criança organizes the communities around a
work of human promotion in the fight against infant
mortality, malnutrition, domestic violence and social
marginality. Thus, it helps the education for a peace
culture and life quality improvement for more than one
million families that are assisted every month. The
essential work is the community organization and training
volunteer leaders that live there and take the task
of guiding and assisting neighbor families. These families
learn how to become the subjects of their own personal
and social change.
The
experience of 19 years of work demonstrates that ensuring
life quality and equal opportunities for all people
depend on the transformation of the social network and
the public policies intended to the most needed. This
is a task that must be shared with the government, the
private corporations and the society, and where the
key for the success is the active role played by the
excluded. Thus, the partnership among these sectors
is the most relevant aspect in the search for accomplishing
an effective work, which truly helps the family and
the communities, involving them into playing the main
role in their own social change.
