Although it is an organization linked to the Catholic Church, the Pastoral da Criança is an autonomous organism. Since the start of its operations, in 1983, all the work has had an ecumenical character, supporting children and their families, regardless of race, color, creed or political beliefs. Among Pastoral da Criança leaders and coordination and training teams, many people belong to different religions.

          This maturity in relating with the different and the diverse is a strong basis in the construction of a culture of peace in each community where the Pastoral da Criança is organized. When living and working with people of different creeds and attitudes, volunteers and family members together discover the richness of difference, the value of adding efforts and specially, the role of each individual in social change.
