The total costs of the Pastoral da Criança programs add up to US$0.50 (50 cents) per month per child - considering all costs, including management, production and distribution of educational material, training and the support of practical activities developed by the Pastoral in the communities. The total amount received by Pastoral da Criança in the year 2001 was US$8.3 million - from the Brazilian government and donations from private institutions.

The work of the Pastoral da Criança is an action based on solidarity and citizenship, as each volunteer is responsible for his/her own personal change and commitment to his/her community. It is important to highlight the fact that if Pastoral had to pay for the services of over 153 thousand volunteers, it would need at least 70 million dollars a year.

Besides low costs, the investment represents large economy of resources and human suffering, as the prevention of diseases and promotion of child development -within the family and community environment - have had favorable repercussions in the family as a whole. Therefore, it is also a clever strategy of regulating health services, associated to the prevention of violence and marginality - which bring an enormous bundle to the families and to the country.
